President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the immediate dissolution of the governing boards of nine state-owned enterprises and public institutions.

The Presidency announced the decision on September 2, 2026. The affected boards are expected to remain dissolved until new appointments are made in accordance with the relevant laws governing the institutions.

The decision forms part of the government’s continuing effort to restructure state institutions and improve accountability, efficiency and performance across the public sector.

Attention will now turn to the appointment of new board members, their qualifications and the performance expectations that will guide their work.

State boards play an important role in corporate governance, policy direction and institutional oversight. Their effectiveness can significantly influence the quality of public services and the financial health of state-owned enterprises.

The government must therefore ensure that the replacement process is transparent and based on competence, experience and integrity.
