Ghana’s year-on-year inflation rate increased to 5.0% in August 2026, representing a 0.4 percentage-point rise from the 4.6% recorded in July.
Data published by the Ghana Statistical Service also shows that the August figure remained below the 5.5% rate recorded during the same month in 2025.
Although inflation remains considerably lower than the levels Ghana experienced in previous years, the second consecutive monthly increase deserves attention.
Inflation affects the cost of food, transportation, housing and other essential goods and services. Even relatively small increases can place additional pressure on households whose incomes have not risen at the same rate.
Policymakers will need to monitor food prices, exchange-rate movements, fuel costs and other factors that may influence inflation in the coming months.
Maintaining price stability will be essential to protecting household purchasing power and sustaining confidence in Ghana’s economic recovery.
